NEET Result Now Valid for 3 Years – A Big Relief for Indian Students Planning MBBS Abroad
In a significant and student‑friendly decision, the Union Health & Welfare Ministry of India, in consultation with the National Medical Commission (NMC), has extended the validity of NEET results for students aspiring to study MBBS abroad. NEET result is now valid for 3 years (including the year of examination) for taking admission in foreign medical universities. This move is especially beneficial for Indian students targeting Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan.
Before this change, NEET scores were valid only for the current academic year, forcing students to take the exam again if they could not secure admission abroad in the same year. With the new rule, a student who qualifies NEET in a given year can apply for MBBS abroad in that year, as well as in the next two academic sessions. For example, a student who cleared NEET in 2024 can use the same score for admissions in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
What the 3‑Year Validity Means for Aspiring Doctors
- Students get 2 extra years (beyond the examination year) to research universities, compare fees, arrange finances, and plan their travel without the pressure of reappearing for NEET.
- It reduces the mental and financial burden of repeating NEET for students who may have narrowly missed admission in a particular country due to university deadlines or seat availability.
- Thousands of Indian students opt for MBBS in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and other countries every year – this rule makes the process more flexible.
Note: The NMC has made NEET a compulsory qualifying criterion for Indian students to study MBBS abroad since 2018. Prior to that, only 50% marks in 12th (PCB) and an eligibility certificate from MCI were required. The 3‑year validity is therefore an additional benefit that came into effect after 2018.
Approximately 15–16 lakh students appear for NEET every year, and the number is rising. Out of these, a large percentage aspire to study MBBS abroad. The 3‑year validity ensures that a NEET‑qualified student does not lose their chance to pursue medicine overseas simply because of timing constraints.
At Professional Career Academy, we advise all NEET‑qualified students to use this window wisely. While your NEET score remains valid for three years, we strongly recommend that you start the admission process early, as foreign universities have limited seats, and the best options fill quickly. Our expert counsellors will help you choose the right university, complete documentation, and secure your seat – all within the validity period of your NEET result.
